Protecting Our Beach
As a lifelong surfer and the Oceanside Deputy Mayor, protecting our ocean and beaches is critical to me. Going to the beach is Oceanside's most popular family pastime. Currently, we do not have usable beaches south of Wisconsin Street for the majority of the year, and urgent action is needed to fix the problem.
As your Deputy Mayor, I have dedicated my time to bringing forward the first coastal restoration and resilience project in decades that will restore Oceanside beaches.
I am proud to have led the Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot Project in 2019, which helped initiate the restoration process of our beaches.
I have devoted much of my time on council to collaborating with community advocacy groups like Save Oceanside Sand that focus on sand nourishment and retention for Oceanside.
I continually advocate for restoring Oceanside beaches while attending SANDAG Shoreline Preservation Working Group meetings as well as Sediment Management Taskforce meetings.
I also played a crucial role in hiring Oceanside’s first Coastal Zone Administrator, who aims to responsibly manage our coastal resources to benefit the community, while improving our natural habitat and resiliency against coastal storms.
Furthermore, I have been an engaged and committed supporter of Oceanside's coastal resiliency project, RE:BEACH.
Although we are on the right track, it will take continuous effort and community support to ensure a solution is funded and built. As Mayor, I will continue to advance our efforts to preserve our precious coastal habitat.
